Portugal reached the
final of the European Under-21 Championship for only the second time
thanks to a remarkable semi-final win over Germany.
Portugal led 3-0 at half-time through Bernardo Silva’s fierce strike, a Ricardo tap-in and Ivan Cavaleiro’s curling shot into the top corner.
Joao Mario’s deflected shot a minute after the break made it 4-0 before Joao Cancelo flicked in the fifth.
Germany had Leonardo Bittencourt sent off for a second yellow card late on.
Portugal, who lost in the 1994 final to Italy, had beaten England 1-0 as they topped Group B but started the semi-final as underdogs as Germany looked to repeat their success in the 2009 tournament.
But Germany were totally outplayed as they lost for the first time in 15 competitive matches with their heaviest defeat at under-21 level.
